How to export a WhatsApp chat

You need the chat export file from your phone. It takes about a minute. Choose “Without media”: it's smaller and Yaprecap doesn't look at photos or videos anyway.

iPhone

  1. 1Open the chat you want to recap.
  2. 2Tap the name of the contact or group at the top.
  3. 3Scroll down and tap “Export chat”.
  4. 4Choose “Without media”.
  5. 5Save the .zip to Files, or send it to yourself (for example by AirDrop or email).

Android

  1. 1Open the chat you want to recap.
  2. 2Tap the three dots (more options) in the top right.
  3. 3Tap “More”, then “Export chat”.
  4. 4Choose “Without media”.
  5. 5Save the .txt or .zip to your phone or a drive, or send it to yourself.

Then open Yaprecap and drop the file in. This works on your phone too.
